Ultrasound at 37 Weeks Pregnant
I wasn’t supposed to have a second ultrasound. At my doctor’s office, they only do one ultrasound, unless they suspect a problem. My little Daphne hadn’t been moving very well for a few weeks. I had been to labor and delivery two days in a row because she hadn’t moved for a few hours. At labor and delivery, the nurses agreed that she was not moving satisfactorily. They gave me apple juice. Nothing. They buzzed her with a buzzer. Still nothing. They gave me an IV, and pumped me full of dextrose. Like magic, Daphne woke up and kicked the crap outta me. They sent me home. The next day, the same exact thing happened. She wasn’t moving, so I went to the hospital. They hooked me up to the dextrose, and bam! She moved again. I told all of this to my doctor, and she decided to send me to the perinatologist for some monitoring.
I went to the Center for Maternal and Fetal Medicine to have my fluid checked and for some non-stress tests. I had to go back twice a week. There again, Daphne wasn’t moving properly. Their buzzer must have been better than the one at the hospital, though, because she would always wake up after they buzzed her. Everything was great. They checked my fluids via ultrasound, and they were perfect. It was so awesome to see her on the ultrasound screen twice a week! She was certainly a chubby little baby. Unfortunately, those ultrasounds only lasted about two minutes, as they were just checking my amniotic fluid. Eventually, they scheduled me for a “real” ultrasound. I was so excited to see my baby girl again!
Is She Healthy? Results of the Ultrasound
At the big ultrasound, they checked everything. They looked at her heart, her kidneys, the blood flow through the umbilical cord, her brain, and her bladder. Just like her mommy, her bladder was extremely full! The ultrasound technician was super nice, and took the time to tell us what everything was, and how everything looked. It was all perfect! She looked extremely healthy. She even double checked the gender: definitely a girl! The technician showed us her face, and my heart melted. It was amazing to see just how clear the picture was. When we had our first ultrasound at 18 weeks, she still looked sort of like a monkey. All that we could really see before was her skeleton. This time, she looked like a baby. We watched her blinking at us and smacking her lips together. We could see all of her features. The tech even gave us some pictures to take home.
When we got home from the ultrasound, we compared pictures of me as a baby to the ultrasound pictures. It was shocking to see just how much she looked like me as a baby. We could have been twins. She has my nose exactly. And my chubby cheeks. Those cheeks are huge! It was truly incredible to see that. She definitely has her daddy’s lips. She is lucky! My lips are thin. I hope that she has his eyes too! I am so glad that we got to have another ultrasound, and I am even more happy that there wasn’t anything wrong! We just have a sleepy baby. It looks like she is just like her daddy in that respect!
